The story behind the image

"In this image, you can see my friend René Eusé, underwater cameraman, completely surrounded by four sperm whales. We spent hundreds of hours with these animals, and what this photograph shows perfectly sums up the essence of these encounters: the sociability, tolerance and curiosity of these giants.

Sperm whales are deeply social animals. When we approach them gently and respectfully, without noise or sudden movements, they welcome us with disarming kindness. They come to observe, circle around us, and sometimes approach to within just a few meters.

That day, they were particularly playful. René was literally immersed in the heart of the clan, and I can still see those shared moments, that feeling of being accepted among them.
When I look at this image, I relive those unique moments spent among the giants.

This photograph is unique because it captures an exceptional situation: a human fully integrated into the social space of a sperm whale clan. Their proximity, their calm, and their attitude demonstrate a rare trust, impossible to obtain without a patient, humble, and deeply respectful approach.
